Chapter Nine

Taking a deep breath, Raine carefully nudged open the door to the Gold Room with his foot. It’d been at least two years since he’d actually entered the room. In fact, it was probably just before Master and Lizzie had moved into their finished home. He barely noticed the cleaned surfaces nor the fact that dust clothes had been removed from the furniture. The cleaning service he’d called had done their normal stellar job. But at the moment, he could’ve cared less as he balanced between his hands a tray loaded not only with plates, cutlery, and bags of steaming seafood, but a pitcher of iced tea and a couple bottles of water. He was hungry.

For this first night, he’d gone simply with takeout, since the kitchen hadn’t been stocked to feed one man let alone two. And I’m sure that Storm would rather not have pb and j. It was Raine’s go to meal of choice. Quick, easy, and he could order chunky peanut butter, and blackberry jelly in bulk. Add to it some fresh fruit now and again, and he was a happy camper. However, with Storm in residence, he’d have to reinstate the grocery service he’d used while Master and Lizzie had resided at the club. He just hoped they were still in business.

“Damn, something smells awesome.” Storm came out of the bathroom, wearing a burgundy towel around his trim waist as well as one slung over his broad shoulders. Raine almost swallowed his tongue at all the dark skin on display. It took all his concentration to not trip over his own tongue. The same tongue he wanted to use to trace over the various tattoos doting Storm’s torso. Damn, there should be a law about a man looking that damned good in nothing but a towel.

“I ordered the Family Feast from...” he rattled off the name of local seafood restaurant. “...it has a little bit of everything, since I didn’t know what foods you like, Sir.”

“Seafood?” Storm stalked over to him much like a panther. “There is no wrong seafood, Raine.” He lifted the tray from Raine’s hands. “Come along. You can set the table while I go get dressed.”

“Yes, Sir.” Raine dutifully trailed after Storm. He waited until Storm set the tray down and disappeared into the closet to get dressed.

The same closet Raine would be sleeping in tonight. He’d already moved a few comfort items as well as things he couldn’t function without into the cozy space. Luckily, he’d never removed the cot that Master had installed in the closet. It had just needed to be remade with fresh linens and covered with the quilt his mamaw had made for him several years ago. It wasn’t lost him, however, that the cot was the same size as his current bed. He found comfort in the tight quarters even now. He shook his head, and told himself to get his head out of the clouds. Sir wouldn’t be pleased if he came out and found the table not set.
